Once again Netflix has taken over my life.  Even though I’ve seen every episode of Friends at least 10 times, I have really enjoyed binge watching it from the beginning again.  Now that I’m older, I’m really identifying with their lives.  Here are 10 things Friends got right about being in your 20s.

World IBD Day

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I have Crohn’s Disease.  For those of you that don’t know, Crohn’s Disease is a type of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases that causes chronic inflammation in the intestinal track.  Because today is World IBD day, I wanted to write a letter to all of the people I know that have Crohn’s or Colitis. I have been so fortunate throughout my life to have made so many incredible friendships with other people that have IBD.  They empower and inspire me, and have been there for me in some of my darkest moments.  This is for them.

My Crohn’s and Colitis Buddies,

People who don’t have IBD can never fully understand what you’ve been through, but I do.  There has been incredible pain and tremendous fear, but there has also been unmeasurable strength and courage.  You are some of the most inspiring people that I know.  Many of you have gone through more terrifying experiences than anyone should ever have to go through in their lifetime, but all it has done is made you stronger.

It’s made you more loving.  It’s made you reach out to other people and care for them without worry for what you yourself are going through.  I am so incredibly proud of the people you have become and the things that you have accomplished.  I’m in awe of the moves that you have made no matter how terrifying they may have looked in the face of your disease.

May you continue to impact the world in such powerful ways with your stories of all that you have been through.  May you never been afraid or ashamed to talk about your disease.  May your openness bring hope to someone that needs to most.  May they be able to relate to your experiences and be inspired by your attitude.  I know that I have been.

When I am temped to feel sorry for myself or wonder why I have suffered like I have, I remember you.  I remember that you have shared those same feelings and come out on the other side.  I remember that because of this illness we are all connected and without it, we may not have met.  And then I don’t have to wonder why me anymore, and I am thankful.  Thankful that I know you and that you have helped to make me who I am today.

May this day remind you how incredible you are.

Marriage Is

Marriage Is

Marriage is hearing your spouse laugh as you squeal because you got your arm stuck behind the couch.

And driving way too fast to get to Nothing Bunt Cakes before they close because you both HAVE to have bunt cakes.

Marriage is staying up late to watch one more episode of your favorite show on Netflix.

And it’s a text message about how beautiful you are that makes your entire day.

Marriage is having someone who doesn’t think you’re crazy when you say you want to do something you’ve never done before.

And getting dressed in the dark so you don’t wake your spouse when you have to get up at 4 in the morning.

Marriage is saving the last cupcake for your spouse even though you’d really rather eat it yourself.

And being too excited to wait until the day of your spouses’ birthday to give them their gift and deciding that any day is a good day to celebrate.

Marriage is being teased for having a complete meltdown when your favorite TV character dies.

And hitting the snooze button one more time so you can enjoy 5 more minutes of lying together.

Marriage is a surprise trip to the record store to get a record by one of your favorite bands.

And it’s missing someone you just saw a few hours ago.

Marriage is everything I hoped it would be and more.

Designing – Packets to take to local businesses to ask them if I can display my jewelry for a couple hours.  I did my very first vendor even this weekend and it gave me the confidence to get out of my comfort zone and start expanding who I’m talking to.

Enjoying – The warm spring weather.  It has been so nice the last few days here in Nashville.  There hasn’t been any rain and it’s been warm and sunny!  Now I probably jinxed it.  I apologize if the weather instantly gets terrible now.

Ordering – Jewelry for graduation and Mother’s Day gifts.  The fun thing about having an online jewelry business is being able to use it to give awesome gifts!

Celebrating – My mom’s birthday and Mother’s Day this weekend.  She may be far away in California but I will certainly be celebrating as if I were with her.

Tasting – Panera ice coffee.  They really got me hooked by giving me free coffee the whole month of April and now I can’t stop going in the morning to pick up an ice coffee!  There are worst things I suppose.

Making Healthy Meals –  Marriage and Relationship Goals {Link-up}

The last few months I feel like I’ve done really well with goals that focus on how I can better myself in order to make my marriage healthier and stronger.  I’ve been working on the words I say about myself and the confidence I have in the way I look.  I’ve been working on being content in this stage of life that we are in and focusing on things that make me feel happy.  This month, I want to work on something that will lead to positive changes for both of us.  For May, I want to focus on making healthy meals.

I feel like I do pretty well in this area for a couple weeks and then I get lazy about cooking for us.  Meal planning and grocery shopping are not my favorite chores, and with busy work schedules and little energy, I find this is the first area I always slack in when I feel like I have too much going on.  Zack has been working really hard on improving his physical health by working out, so I owe it to him to be able to provide healthy dinner options when he gets home.  It’s so much easier when we work together to eat healthy then when one person wants to and the other person brings home junk food.

I have also been wanting to work on this area for myself.  My health has been very good for the past year or so, and I want to keep it that way.  I too have been trying to exercise more, and it seems counterproductive to work out and then bring fast food home.  I’ll be starting tonight by making a grocery store run for the week, and hopefully I can continue throughout the month.
